The Bidding War for Roland Emmerich’s 2012
Wednesday night, Sony Pictures succesfully won the bidding war for Roland Emmerich’s end-of-the-world spec script, 2012, according to Variety. The director of Independence Day (so-so), Godzilla (ick) and The Day After Tomorrow (good fun) definitely loves this apocalypse stuff — and apparently, so does the rest of Hollywood.
Studios had just one day to read the script and get back to Emmerich and “his people” with pitches. Sony is apparently ready to pony up what may be a budget of $200 million, and will use 2012 as their major blockbuster release for 2009.
The spec script for 2012 was co-written by Harald Kloser, who also co-wrote 10,000 B.C. with Emmerich.

You should read Jim Fitzpatrick’s EDEN II. That’s a much better script than 2012.

I’m excited to see this movie. It reminds me of a novel I read called, Escape 2 Earth.
@daisy-
I don’t Escape 2 Earth, what’s it about?
